know sports at Varazze:

S. AMBROGIO CHURCH (13-16th century),
Modern front. 13th-century bell tower with ancient Mediterranean ceramics. The churchyard consisting of sea stones set close to form variously shaped geometrical patterns is well worth a look (1759). Within: 15-19th century painting on wooden board. Interesting polptych of S. Ambrogio by Barbagelata and Annunciation by Francesco da Milano (15th century), the wooden statue of S. Caterina da Siena, patron saint of the town, by sculptor A. Maria Maragliano; inlaid marble pulpit, the Baroque, marble statue of Our Lady of Assumption by F. Schiaffino, the large and modern 3142 flue pipe organ. Medieval headstones are walled in the sacristy and the adjacent passageways.

TOWN-WALLS
Still preserved on the northern side, these massive fortifications date back to the 12th century. The former S. Ambrogio Church (10th sentury) was absorbed by them westwards. What is let of this second boun- dary wall can be seen along Via Don Bosco, the gate at the beginning of Via Coda (see the headstone above it), the Turris Valli and a western tower mostly ruined (Via Villagrande). Noteworthy are also the remains of ancient carved slate portals such as that in Vico dello Spedale (Annunciation) or the Renaissance one in Via S. Ambrogio.

SS TRINITA'OR S. CATERINA CHAPEL
Votive sanctuary erected by the town in honor of its own saint patron as memorial to her stay at Varazze in 1370 when she miraculously stopped the plage that was decimating the population. On the inside walls, frescoes by painters Santo Bertelli, Francesco Gandolfi, Luigi De Servi, Luigi Gainotti, Francesco and Achille De CorinZi, showing highlights from Caterina Benincasa's life.

N.S. ASSUNTA ORATORY
Formerly the chapel of the medieval castle. Within: large wooden crucifix and statue of Madonna by Maragliano.

S. CRISTO CHURCH
Formerly S, Maria del Lantronorio. Annex to the castle in the Invrea area (12th century). Within: large crucifix painted on wooden board, maybe by the school of Giotto, said have been left on the near cliff by the sea.

SAN DONATO CHURCH (11 th century)
In locality Parasio, su di una collinetta lungo il corso del torrente Teiro, All'interno. Cristo in croce, teca con le reliquie del Santo.

CHURCH AND CONVENT OF THE CAPUCHIN FRIARS
Located on the Tasca hill, Founded in 1613, it shows some fine 16th and 17th century paintings.

SAN BARTOLOMEO ORATORY
Traditionally dear to the fishermen of the Solaro quarter, Within: fine polychrome wooden statue with twelve figures portraying S, Barto,lomeo's martyrdom by Maragliano; 16th century polyptych by Teramo Piaggio da Zoagli,

SAINT JOSEPH'S ORATORY
It's the casaccia of carpenters and sailors, the most artistic of Varazze. Inside: an estimable wooden crucifix attributed to Maragliano,a wonder representation of the holy family also attributed to Maragliano,two wooden statues,beautiful 16th century works of art in addi- tion to the many ex voto ship model.

SAN DOMENICO CHURCH: (15th century)
with cloister, Within: the chaple dedicated to Jacopo da Varag inc whose mortal remains are venerated and preserved in a silver urn; a polyptych portraying Jacopo and other saint by Simone da Pavia (1452/ an ancien pesco (12th century) portrayng the Madonna delle Grazie; other fine paintings and a wooden statue of the 1lkdonna del Rosario by Maragliano.

SANTI NAZARIO AND CELSIO CHURCH
It dates back to the 12 century. Within: fine 17th century frescoes and paintings
